Tønder Festival 2015

Donnerstag/Thursday

This year´s festival saw me two hours earlier than the years before at two o´clock in the afternoon. The price was a four o´clock wake up in the morning and two very tired days following up. But I had the chance to organize a good place for my tent and my living in the sun, in the rain and in the mud of the Tønder Festival in time and to see some concerts in the afternoon.

I stepped into Telt 2 to hear some beautiful songs of Chris Smither. On the Open Air Stage Hayseed Dixie presented the their rock approach to folk music and obviously tried to frighten the audience. But there were not enough small kids at all. Then it was time to change into the Spejlttelt, the Palais de Glaces. A great singer appeared there, a giant of blues singing, Hans Theessink. I stayed there and heard a band I missed out last year, The Stray birds, a wonderful trio from Canada

Sonntag/Sunday

My Sunday began with one of my favourite bands, Dreamers Circus, this time playing together with the Danisch String Quartett, extraordinary classic musicians playing folk music with their very own trademark. In the Palais de Glaces a Basque accordion player, Kepa Junkera, appeared on stage with six young girls, who played tambourins and other rythm instrments, sang and danced. A wild and lovely performance.

Freitag/Friday

Friday Afternoon I was looking foreward to seeing and hearing again one of my personal highlights of this festival, a band I saw in 2077, which impressed me so much and is my favourite Irish Folk Band since then. Of couse eight years is a long time and tings might change but I was not disappointed. A perfect concert.

This year the start of FolkSpot was made by Maja & David. They were followed by M. C. Hansen and The Northern Assembly. On the Open Air Stage a young band appeared with some musicians who took part in the "Strings Attached" project in 2011. Then a short visit at Folkeklubben in Telt one and the again joing the Spejltelt for Kathleen & The Side. My day was finished by the Fanø - Cape Breton Night with musicians form Fanø an Canada and with a group of young fiddlers, the new generation from Fanø.

Sonnabend/Saturday

The Saturday started with the "New Orleans Band Street Battle" with Meshiya lake and Teh littel Big Horn"from New Orleans and the Neanders an xxx from Denmark as teh combattants. Battle in this case did not mean playing against each other but to play te same song, but every band to play better. Great Music, great dances and Meshiya Lake who deminstrated that she is a real street singer, who does not need a micro.

In the afternoon inTelt 2 The Wailin´Jennys appeared and Mary Gauthier playing together with Michele Gazich, a phantastic fiddler from italy. in the P 4 Scenen the second set of the FolkSpot took place with Phønix, Ida Wenøe & The Silver cords and the Erlend Viken Trio from Norway, my personal discovery of this festival. And in the eveening I had to hear the Neanders again in the Visemøllen, playing Jazz mixed with Rock´n Roll.
