Tønder Festival 2012

Donnerstag/Thursday

The official opening this year for the first time took place Thursday afternoon on the big open air stage. Two concerts followed the opening speeches, the Danish Band “Habadekuk” and “Oh my Darling” from Canada.

In the begin of the evening, as every year in the Kulturhuseet:”Den første Aften”, hosted by Niels Hausgaard. His guests were Mette Kirkegaard, Allan Olsen and Huxi Bach. In former years the evening was over at the end of this concert. The new concept now leeds to long evenings with music up to one thirty at night. So in the end I had the chance to see “Skerrywore”, this young and powerful band from Scotland

The Friday saw Plainsong and the Oysterband in Tent 1. The Oysterband playing with June Tabor, a beautiful combination. For Oyster-Fans a different experience, but in every respect an unforgettable concert.

In the evening on the Open Air Stage music from the outback of the folk music spectrum. “Deer Tick” showed their folk roots, but it was also a great Hard Rock Concert. The evening then ended more quietly in the Kunstmuseet with Heidi Talbot and her Trio and with“I draw slow” from Ireland

Sonnabend/Saturday

The Saturday brought up a fantastic Jazz Band from New Orleans: Meshiya Lake and the Little Big Horns. A young powerful singer, a great band and two dancers, who made the music, the band played, visible. On the Open Air stage “The Low Anthem” opened the evening for the Oysterband, this time playing their original repertoire facing an audience of nearly 5000 fans.

And again “Oh My Darling”, this time in the “Kunstmuseet”. At late night an extraordinary experience in Tent 2. Psychedelic Folk with a clear approach to Punk with “Tako Lako”. A surprise then in the musicians bar. The jam sessions there were different this year. Not only fiddles, flutes and pipes could be heard, also Clarinet, Trumpet and Saxophone.
