8th Italian Jazz Festival in der Kunstfabrik Schlot

8th Italian Jazz Festival at the Jazzclub Schlot in Berlin

From  23rd to 26th of November the 8th Italian Jazz Festival took place at the Jazzclub Schlot in Berlin. Four concerts of whom I had the chance to join three evenings at the Kunstfabrik an to hear three wonderful concerts. The Festival was organized by Andrea Marcelli and supported by the „ Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Berlino “

Thursday 23rd of November it started with a concert titled „Luigi Pirandello, 150th Anniversary“ with Matteo Gazzolo (poetry), Donatello D'Attoma (piano), Josh Ginsburg (bass) and Andrea Marcelli on drums and clarinet. It was a mixture of recitation and a concert with the italian actor Matteo Gazzolo, read texts of Luigi Pirandello and other authors. Even he talked Italian, and most of he audience would not understand him, you could feel his words also as music and enjoy the other instruments gently accompanying his speech.

Friday 23rd of November the concert was tiled „From Martin Luther to Claudio Monteverdi“ with the great Ekkehard Wölk (piano), Jörn Henrich (bass), Andrea Marcelli (drums and as a special guests Aldo Bassi (trumpet) and again Matteo Gazzolo (poetry). The band played music from Martin Luther for his 500th Anniversary and Claudio Monteverdi, 450th Anniversary, Heinrich Schütz and Johann Sebastian Bach. Beautiful interpretations very well played by phantastic musicians.

The final Evening on Sunday 26th November saw the Carlo Morena Trio with Carlo Morena (piano), Igor Spallati (bass) and Andrea Marcelli (drums). A fine final for this wonderful festival.
